Bilingual (Spanish) Relief Counselor (SUDS)

Are you a dedicated and compassionate behavioral health professional with a strong commitment to helping people experiencing substance use disorder who are involved in the criminal justice system? Emergence is seeking a Relief Counselor to provide support to our dedicated team of counselors. As a relief counselor, you will facilitate group therapy and help people along their journey to recovery. Emergence has provided treatment for substance use disorder in Lane County since 1981. We serve people who meet criteria for Level 1 Outpatient or Level 2.1 Intensive Outpatient, and provide treatment to people who need residential while they work their way through the waiting list. Our SUD programs include Discovery (DUII), Endeavor (probation), Focus Treatment Court, and Threshold (IOP).

Substance Use Disorder Counselor Position Highlights:

  • $3,000 Sign On BONUS (prorated to hours worked), Up to $1500 on your first full paycheck and up to $2000 after 6 months, depending on hours worked
  • Non-exempt position
  • Hourly rate is $20.67/hr and up (based on education and experience)

Substance Use Disorder Counselor Responsibilities:

  • Assessing clients' physical and mental behaviors
  • Facilitating individual and group therapy sessions in English and Spanish
  • Collaborating with psychiatrists, doctors, nurses, social workers, and departments of correction
  • Identifying behaviors that interfere with treatment and recovery
  • Assisting primary caregivers to manage addiction-related behavior

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Speaks fluent Spanish and English
  • CADC-R, or ability to be credentialed as CADC-R by MHACBO
  • One year of experience in social services or behavioral health
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and a compassionate nature.
  • Ability to pass a background check and drug screen (including cannabis)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in psychology or counseling
  • Completed coursework on substance use disorders
  • CADC I certification
  • Previous experience working in treatment for substance abuse disorders
  • Familiarity with electronic health record systems, specifically CareLogic
  • Experience with co-occurring health and mental health disorders
